Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Smartt Advisory handles your personal information.
It covers what we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We have kept it plain and short on purpose. If something is unclear, ask us. Contact details are at the end.
By using our website or working with us, you agree to the handling of information described here.
About Smartt Advisory
Smartt Advisory is a solo advisory practice operated by Matt Smartt, based in New South Wales, Australia.
We help B2B SaaS founders strengthen their activation, onboarding, and retention mechanics ahead of a funding raise. Our work is strategic and advisory. We are the business that decides why and how your information is handled, which under privacy law makes us the data controller.
Applicability
This policy applies to:
- Visitors to smarttadvisory.com
- People who contact us through the website, by email, or on social platforms
- People who book a call with us
- People who subscribe to the Raise Ready newsletter
- Clients and prospective clients we work with or speak to
It does not apply to third-party websites we link to. Those sites run their own policies, and we suggest you read them.
Information We Collect
We only collect what we need. That falls into a few groups.
Information you give us directly. When you fill in a form on the site, book a call, subscribe to the newsletter, or email us, you may share things like your name, work email, company name, your company's stage or revenue range, your raise timing, and notes about your product or situation. The "Diagnose your raise risk" and "Let's talk" flows collect this kind of detail so we can understand whether we are a fit.
Booking information. When you schedule a call, our booking tool collects your name, email, the time you picked, and anything you add in the booking notes.
Information shared during an engagement. If we work together, you may share product data, analytics, metrics, and commercial information. We treat this as confidential and only use it to deliver the work. Our advisory agreement sets out the confidentiality terms in full.
Usage information. When you visit the site, we may collect basic technical data such as your IP address, browser type, device type, pages viewed, and how you found us. This helps us understand what is working and keep the site running.
We do not collect payment card details through the website. Engagement fees are invoiced separately.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Respond to your enquiry and work out whether we are a good fit
- Schedule and run calls
- Deliver advisory work we have agreed to
- Send the Raise Ready newsletter, if you subscribed
- Keep records of our conversations and pipeline
- Run, maintain, and improve the website
- Meet our legal and tax obligations
We may use anonymised and aggregated insights from engagements for benchmarking and to develop our frameworks. This is never tied to you or your company by name without your permission, and our advisory agreement covers this in writing.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not send marketing you did not ask for.
How We Retain Your Information
We keep your information only for as long as we need it.
Enquiry and pipeline records are kept while there is a live or realistic prospect of working together, and for a reasonable period after. Engagement records and anything we are required to keep for tax or legal reasons are held for as long as the law requires. Newsletter records are kept until you unsubscribe.
When we no longer need information, we delete it or remove anything that identifies you.
How We Disclose Your Information
We do not share your information except in these limited cases:
- Service providers. We use a small set of trusted tools to run the business, listed below. They only access what they need to provide their service, and they are bound by their own privacy and security obligations.
- Legal reasons. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights, safety, or property.
- With your consent. Any other sharing happens only if you agree to it first.
The main service providers we rely on are:
- Cal.com for booking calls
- Substack for the Raise Ready newsletter
- Google Workspace for email and document storage
- Notion for managing our pipeline and records
- Hostinger for website hosting
Each of these runs its own privacy policy, which you can read on their websites.
How We Secure Your Information
We take reasonable steps to protect your information.
That includes using reputable providers, limiting who can access data to just us, and keeping accounts protected. No system is ever completely secure, and we cannot promise absolute protection, but we treat your information with care and only hold what we need.
International Visitors and Data Transfers
We are based in Australia, and our service providers may store information in other countries, including the United States.
If you are in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area, or another region with its own privacy laws, your information may be transferred to and handled in countries with different rules to your own. Where we do this, we rely on providers that apply appropriate safeguards.
Your Privacy Rights
You have rights over your information. Depending on where you live, these can include the right to:
- Ask what information we hold about you
- Ask us to correct it if it is wrong
- Ask us to delete it
- Object to or restrict how we use it
- Receive a copy of it in a portable format
- Withdraw consent you previously gave
- Unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time, using the link in any issue
To exercise any of these, email us at the address below. We may need to confirm your identity first. We will respond within a reasonable time and in line with the law that applies to you.
If you are in the EEA or UK and you are not happy with how we have handled your information, you can also complain to your local data protection authority. In Australia, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
Cookies
We keep cookies to a minimum.
The site uses essential cookies needed to function, and our booking tool may set its own cookies when you schedule a call. We may use basic analytics to understand site performance. You can control or block cookies through your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not work as well if you do.
Children's Privacy
Our services are for businesses and the people who run them. They are not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has given us their information, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time.
When we do, we will post the new version here and update the effective date at the top. If the change is significant, we will make a reasonable effort to let subscribers and active clients know. Please check back now and then.
